This memorable guided bus tour showcases how Rio Tinto make salt. The tour takes you into the salt fields of Port Hedland to experience the amazing process that takes huge amounts of ocean water and turns it into pure salt for export all over the world.

Your expert guide will share knowledge of the local region and there will be plenty of photo opportunities during the tour.

You will also learn about how the local Marapikurrinya People, the Traditional Owners of the land and Rio Tinto are working together to build a sustainable future in the region.

What you will see

This is a 1.5 hour guided bus tour of Rio Tinto Dampier Salt’s operation where production begins with seawater from the Indian Ocean evaporated to become hypersaline and then poured into the salt crystalliser ponds where it grows the salt. You’ll visit the production area where you can touch samples of the salt in its raw form while taking photos of the salt stack and operations.
