What you will see
Image module

See Marapikurrinya, now called the town of Port Hedland, through the eyes of the Traditional Aboriginal Owners. Once an island, Marapikurrinya’s (Port Hedland’s) marine and terrestrial environment sustained the lives of the locals who dined on a bounty of seafood, plants and animals.

See where they lived before and after the coming of the Europeans. See where there are rock art engravings over 7000 years old that record life, water sources, animals and teaching information. See how damper is prepared and cooked in the ground and enjoy a taste of damper with a billy tea.

See and learn about the history pre and post colonisation for the local Traditional Owners including how the early station workers strike of 1946 and the coming of the resources sector has changed their lives for better and for worse.
